Gravel Excavating has completed the Island project (in the back corner of the Lake), by adding 5 more Islands to the original 8 done a few years ago. This brings the total number of Islands to 13. They pulled back the erosion on the top part of the creek banks (see pictures). Brian from Gravel Excavating said he estimates 13 feet of silt had settled into this area through the last (approximately) 30 years. This has all been done on the west side of the Lake, where the creek enters, as to prevent silt from coming in the Lake caused by heavy rains.
This last design has been made to re-enter the area for future silt removal maintenance.
We are hopeful that creating this habitat will encourage more wildlife to move into this area. The cost of the project came in under estimated projection at a cost of $5353,75.
There will be another drone picture shoot in the future to compare before/after results, and show final project look after grass starts to grow. Looks like a great season of kayaking back there!
Thanks to the members, Board, and Lake Committee for getting this done!
